The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida reaches back to before Columbus discovered the country. Originally part of the Creek Nation the tribe had its beginnings in the area now known as Alabama and Georgia. It wasn’t until 1962 that the U.S. Secretary of the Interior approved the Miccosukee Constitution and the tribe was officially recognized, giving it domestic dependant nation status in the U.S. Currently there are approximately 650 enrolled Miccosukee Indians.
To learn more about the Miccosukee Indians you may want to visit the Miccosukee Indian Village where you can observe the tribe engaging in woodwork, beadwork, patchwork, basket weaving, and doll making. You’ll see historical artifacts, paintings by tribal artists and historical relics and photographs at the Miccosukee Museum. Then take in the more dangerous side of the Miccosukee Indians by viewing a live demonstration with alligators, travel through the River of grass on an airboat, and explore a hammock-style Indian Camp owned by the same Miccosukee family for over a century. It’s a wonderful way to learn more about the tribe, Florida’s history and explore the region from a different perspective.
Getting to the heart of the matter, gamers are going to Miccosukee for one reason, to gamble. The casino offers 24 hour gambling with more than 1700 video pull tab machines, 58 poker tables with a variety of popular games, and grandma’s favorite, high stakes bingo. Empeeke Aaweeke is an international buffet open most of the day with first class dining at an affordable price. Visit this restaurant again and again as the menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner change throughout the day. Empeeke Aya is a deli that is open 24 hours a day and can fill your need for a quick snack or a complete meal. Look for traditional favorites such as hamburgers, sandwiches, pizza, and homemade desserts. Café Hammock is another 24 hour restaurant but this location offers a more high end menu with Florida Steak and a Lobster Special as well as a variety of tropical dishes. And finally, for those serious bingo fanatics, the Bingo Snack Bar offers a quick snack or a complete hot meal. It’s a quick solution to hunger that lets you keep gambling to your heart’s content.

When it comes to nightlife there are four different options onsite at the Miccosukee Resort and Casino. The Cypress Lounge is not only popular with guests of the casino but with other people living in and visiting the Miami area because it is one of very few 24 hour nightclubs in the city. There are lunch and dinner specials and a full service cocktail bar, but the live entertainment is what really gets club goers up and moving. The Martini Bar is exactly what it claims to be, a great place to get away and relax while enjoying a specialty martini. You can also enjoy a cigar from the exclusive cigar humidor. The Gator Bar is along the lines of a traditional sports bar with a number of televisions set to your favorite sports and a crowd that enjoys a good game as much as a good ale. The final option for nighttime entertainment at the Miccosukee Resort and Casino is its Entertainment Dome. Big name live entertainment and sporting events are routinely scheduled in the 2000 seat Miccosukee Sports & Entertainment Dome.
And for a little wager of a different kind, how about a round of golf among friends? The Miccosukee Championship golf course is considered one of the best layouts in the region with 27 holes and a lighted practice range. Prior to being purchased by the Miccosukee Tribe in 2001 the club was known as the Miami National Golf Club and hosted a number of noted LPGA and PGA events. The club not only offers incredible options for golfers but the Olympic sized swimming pool is delightful and the facilities are perfect for a number of events.
And in addition to the wonderful vacation you can have exploring everything the Miccosukee Resort and Casino has to offer there is also the beauty of Miami and Southern Florida at your fingertips.
