If you are in the Miami Beach area and are looking for a beautiful and unique park to visit then a true can’t-miss is Matheson Hammock Park. Located conveniently in the Miami Beach area, the park is open daily from sunrise to sunset while the park office is open daily from 8AM-5PM. Matheson Hammock Park was actually originally built in the 1930’s from a piece of land that was donated from a conservationist named William Matheson.
Matheson Park is a great place for picnics, volleyball, or any other number of outdoor, family related activities. It also offers something other parks don’t, a man-made atoll pool. This unique and unusual feature is flushed daily by the natural tidal action of nearby Biscayne Bay. With warm natural Miami breezes, families with children of any age can enjoy the pool, as lifeguards are almost always on duty and the waters of the pool are both warm and safe. Matheson Hammock Park also has a snack bar, as well as a restaurant that has been built into an historical coral rock building, along with picnic pavilions and nature trails. If this is not enough, the park is also home to the Matheson Hammock Marina.
There are several pavilions available for parties on both ends of the park. At the South-end of the park the facilities are based on a first come first serve basis and there is no rental fee involved – although a maximum of twenty people is allowed. Since the park is open at sunrise, you may want to get there fairly early if you are trying to reserve one of these pavilions, as they are extremely popular. Conversely, at the North-end of the park pavilions are available to rent for around $150 per-day, with a $75 refundable deposit that will be returned to you at the conclusion of your party provided the area is cleaned and not damaged. Bookings for this area of the park are often made several months in advance so be sure to call early to reserve your spot at the park.
A truly unique park experience awaits you at Matheson Hammock Park. Whether you just want to stroll through the park and take in the sites, or hold a full-fledged outdoor party, this park offers it all. If you are visiting the Miami Beach area and want to experience something different and unique, this is the place to be.
