Miami International Triathlon

The first major triathlon each year is the Miami International Triathlon. This year it will held on March 14, 2010 and with 1,500 competitors last year, it is expected to be bigger and better this time around.

The athletes come to Miami for the sun, the great weather, and the fair course that produces great times. This year, the 1.5 kilometer swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run will be a national age group qualifier as the top 10% of each age group will qualify to go onto nationals.

Expected to compete this year are professionals Chris Lieto, Andrew Yoder, Jillien Peterson, and Sarah Haskins, although other great athletes from all over the world especially Latin American countries will also enter before March.

A total prize money purse of $25,000 will be divided up and given to the winners, so it is one of the richest triathlons in The United States. In addition to running a great triathlon, event organizers always make sure to give back to the community. This year, the Miami International Triathlon will support Friends of Marine Stadium and the Dade Heritage Trust to help restore the City of Miami Marine Stadium. All in all a great event, well run for all the competitors and the 5,000 plus spectators that will line the streets in support.
