Residents and tourists alike can enjoy the pristine white sands of Haulover Beach. Located at 10800 Collins Avenue in the city of Bal Harbour, and stretching about a mile and a half from end-to-end, Haulover Beach is a great place to spend a few hours and soak up the sun.
The tall, oceanfront luxury condominiums in Bal Harbour mark the southern end of the beach. Beach goers may be surprised to find a small section of the beach has been turned in to Florida’s only legal clothing optional beach. The area is clearly marked with signs so, if nudity offends you, you can avoid the area and relax on a more family friendly stretch of sand.
Haulover Beach Park is run by the Miami Dade County Parks and Recreation Department. In addition to the Atlantic Ocean beach, the park boasts some additional attractions.
A full service marina is located across Collins Avenue on the Intracoastal waterway. Boaters can dock their boats and enjoy lunch at the marina’s restaurant. After lunch, they can fuel up and take their boat out for some fishing or just a nice relaxing tour of the area.
For those who want to work on their short game, there is a nine hole executive golf course. You’ll need no more than a pitching wedge and your putter to navigate the course. The longest hole is just 125 yards long. New comers to golf and established players can enjoy putting around the course.
Haulover Beach and the surrounding park grounds also offers a picnic area with barbeque grills and picnic tables under an area shaded by trees. The area gets crowded on the weekends and holidays, so get there early to claim a table. A cement path runs along part of the beach so you can roller skate, bike or just take a walk without getting sand in your shoes.
After your day at the beach, you can head a mile south and visit the upscale Bal Harbour Mall that features the department store Neiman Marcus as well as lots of fancy boutique shops. Go ahead, make plans and enjoy a day at Haulover Beach.
