Betsy Hotel Review

With a beginning as the Betsy Ross Hotel, one would think that the Betsy Hotel South Beach would not possess the sophistication and high style that hotels found along Miami’s legendary South Beach have come to be known for worldwide. Yet, the Betsy Hotel South Beach has become the newest destination hotel in South Beach. When it opened its doors in 1942 as the Betsy Ross Hotel, it was distinctive for its colonial architecture that was stylish for its time even amongst the legion of Art Deco hotels in Miami Beach. With a complete renovation in 2009, the historical landmark has returned to prominence with modern-day grandeur and a fresh new style. Incorporating its colonial architecture with the tropical style one would expect on South Beach, the Betsy Hotel utilizes its floor-to-ceiling windows to illuminate the lobby with natural light. The tropical colonial style is further enhanced with elegant chandeliers that hang from its coffered ceilings; plantation style shutters that help define the spaces in the public areas; and other luxurious furnishings such as antique wooden globes, potted palms, natural fiber rugs, and safari-themed covering on the furniture. The openness in the lobby highlights the light-colored terrazzo floors that are reminiscent of the era in which the hotel was built.
